Your ‘Way’

First published in Midsummer's Eve (2022) a Wingless Dreamer anthology that has been available through Amazon (the link to the

listing is embedded in the image below) – this work arose from some creative self-translation of material originally settled in Chinese

and Latin.

Your ‘Way’

Maintain, safeguard and contemplate only this:

your house; those of your kin; and those of all other ranks

(including those that some may consider subordinate).

Such exuberance is your way

and there is nothing more to be heard among the cracks and fissures …

or to otherwise be respected and admired.

That ‘you’ is like a precious stone or beautiful pure gem –

beauty and elegance in the form of a perfect sphere.

To anxiously hop along looking for something to cling to

is like being about to open the bamboo fence and enter swirling water

(territory that is known to be destructive and shattering).

It is a foolish leader that stridently ignores the warning call of birds singing together

only to subsequently come into contact with boiling water, rotten food or urine

and then complain.

A period telling fortunes, divining or taking an augury is akin to:

creating a bed made of tree branches;

graduating with the skills to blame, reproach and negate;

or,

attempting to postpone that which must be started or arranged

(such as reading, travel, being idle, administration, being tender or composing poetry).

Those who look after children –

irrespective of whether they are tutors, wet nurses or mothers

(even if they go by another name) –

model endlessly …

just as they did in the past

(including that which is majestically virtuous and bland, lame, weak and feeble).

The outstanding, fine, excellent and brave

may be showy or appear in relatively generic form,

but they wield only the weapon

‘prosperity flourishing and thriving through unity, rational inquiry and teaching’.

This is your way –

it is all that is to be respected or admired in your heart,

clung to with great desire

and carried into old age …

not taking pot-shots at others, penises, hookahs,

mythical fantasies, cake or second-rate father figures.

That is a peculiar way to be amicable …

physical and spiritual nourishment

is related to enduring

temperate inner wisdom.
