For and from Marilyn: An explanation for mothers

Published in Mother, a title just above queen (2022) a Wingless Dreamer anthology that has been available through Amazon

(the link to the listing is embedded in the image below) – the messages in this work seem to provide guidance to mothers in

general, in addition to one mother in particular (it is a very private message that has been shared in the hopes that many will

benefit from the commentary).

For and from Marilyn: An explanation for mothers

Given relevant constraints (which otherwise limit [by way of thrift or economy]),

the following is a concise (perhaps, ‘humble’ or ‘poor’)

approximation responding to the desire for an explanation concerning life

(or ‘bearing fruit, creating connections and concluding matters’).

You and your way (including your various states and traits)

are respected and admired as being flourishing (including the cracks and fissures) –

in short, there’s nothing more to it.

It is so eternally – no period of absence or grief (or even cockiness or arrogance)

has any negative impact.

Your song is one of joy, fun, happiness and pleasure that cures, heals and treats

the stray, wicked and delightful alike.

It is a variant of the genuine elixir of life and – like being given the epithet of Qílín (麒麟) –

is the mark of an outstanding and venerable person.

What then of the “I”, “me”, “we”, “us”, “society”, “history” and “death”?

Well, here is a little.

Echoes of the primordial in the form of rumours, speeches and music

speak of visions of prosperous and thriving pursuit of inquiry and learning.

There is also talk of “crossing”, finality and moving to and fro between states.

Even something akin to a great, honourable and peaceful womb (of some form)

is described.

Such has been the creative inspiration for diagrams, charts, pictures and books

that have subsequently been duplicated and consulted

(some have even been attributed with insulting terms

[and others have been used to bully or compel the production of grandiose tombs]).

To move beyond all the drama, however, the unadulterated truth

is that your fate is to be a deceased mother and – for a time –

make a living being a Sage that speaks with great wisdom

about the need to relinquish the fear of mortality …

to be exceptionally special

(nothing more – it is just your natural state).

This work also appears in Arete: Enlightening Poetry and Coloring (2023) where it is published with specially designed illustrations
